In September 2008 I was commissioned to construct a set of the Five Platonic Solids for Mathematician Professor John Griggs Thompson - noted for his work in the field of finite groups, awarded the Fields Medal 1970 & the 2008 Abel Prize.

Table and Chairs

This sculpture is another of my optical illusions – placing the tables and chairs on the beach enhanced the effect – in fact the chairs in this photograph are only 19cm high (I sculpt various sizes and styles of tables and chairs) but with the sea as a backdrop the viewer’s eye and brain need to work overtime to discern the scale.

No Energy Lamp

Optical illusions fascinate me. I attempt to distil the spirit/essence of any given object and reconstruct it in profile - leaving the viewer’s brain to fill in the spaces! A strategically placed single L.E.D. light or small spotlight will project endless shadows around a room.

Man Seated Reading Newspaper

I love working with wire - for me this is a form of drawing - I break down my subject into profiles and contours from the distilled images in my mind's eye. This chap is light enough to move gently in a breeze or when touched.
Shadows are an important dimension of my work and you will find a single LED light/torch will project numerous exciting shadows around a room.

Record with Musical notes

The original design for this range of sculptures was a wedding present I created for two special friends - Thea Gilmore and Nigel Stonier - both very talented professional musicians working in the 'record' industry - I too love music and can't imagine life without it.

Nodding Head with hat - prototype

This sculpture is a prototype that is designed to interact with a second sculpture that also lives in my studio - the head knods when triggered by a voice activated motor - this sets off the the other head creating the effect of the two pieces interracting/talking to one another.

I retain the prototypes but am always happy to receive commisions based on this concept or any of my other designs.
